Nowoola Awopetu, NCC, LPC-R is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Resident in Virginia who joined the University of Richmond in August 2026. He has experience working in private practice and college counseling settings, utilizing a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approach.
Nowoola earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Villanova University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Virginia Commonwealth University. His professional interests include trauma, identity development, mental health, and supporting student-athletes and students through academic, personal, and life transitions.
As a counselor, Nowoola works with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and adjustment concerns. He integrates evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and strengths-based interventions to empower clients and support their growth and well-being.
Outside of work, Nowoola enjoys spending time with friends, working out, traveling, and exploring creative interests such as photography.
