Dr. Messer began working at UR CAPS in August of 2022. She received her doctoral degree from Auburn University’s Counseling Psychology program and her Masters of Science degree from University of Southern Mississippi’s Counseling psychology program. Before joining UR, Dr. Messer completed her doctoral internship at Virginia Commonwealth University’s counseling center where she completed a concentration working with LGBTQIA+ students.Dr. Messer is passionate about working with all university students and knows how stressful being a university student can be. Her areas of clinical interest include: attachment concerns, anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationships, complex trauma and identity development. Dr. Messer works from a psychodynamic approach, pulling from a variety of interrelated orientations, including the integrated Interpersonal Process approach. Dr. Messer's clinical approach also utilizes parts work and somatic work to address symptoms of C-PTSD and minimize experiences of shame. Dr. Messer is passionate about working with graduate trainees and aims to assist clinicians-in-training in meeting their goals and instilling a strong professional identity.In her free time, Dr. Messer enjoys any and all craft projects, spending time with family, friends, and her dogs.
