CAPS Advanced Graduate Trainee
  • Profile

Kenna Yadeta (she/her) is an Advanced Graduate Trainee at UR CAPS and a fourth year Counseling Psychology doctoral student at Virginia Commonwealth University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience in 2018, followed by a Master of Public Health from Drexel University in 2020. Before beginning her doctoral studies in 2022, Kenna completed a two-year-post-baccalaureate research fellowship with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Kenna takes a relational approach to therapy, grounding herself in Relational Cultural Therapy and integrating tools from evidenced based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is committed to creating a collaborative environment that is culturally responsive and highlights her clients agency and ability to change. Her clinical interests include identity development, anxiety, and interpersonal relationships. As a child of immigrants herself, Kenna is passionate about working with students navigating concerns around their "first-gen" status, bicultural experience, and family of origin.

Originally from Maryland, she visits with her (large) family often! Additionally, she spends her time exploring Richmond with her friends, enjoying music and concerts, and is trying to pick up new hobbies, such as tennis! Kenna also loves coffee, a nod to her Ethiopian roots, and loves exploring coffee shops around the area.
