Profile
Hannah Guffey (pronounced Guff-ee) is a Staff Counselor at CAPS. She completed her Master of Science in Counselor Education with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2013. After completing her graduate degree, she worked at the College of Charleston as a crisis case manager and conduct officer within the Office of the Dean of Students. Hannah continued her work with college students after a move “up north” to Charlottesville, VA as a career counselor at the University of Virginia. Here Hannah learned the powerful connection between the “personal and professional” when it comes to what influences our decision making and life journeys.
After almost 10 years of working in higher education, Hannah took a brief pivot to explore the field of learning & development in the private sector before returning to her first love, mental health counseling. Hannah now lives and works in Richmond, VA at the University of Richmond as well as Aspen Grove Wellness, a private practice based in town. She has a genuine love of people and uses person centered and strengths focused approaches to encourage self-awareness and insight as well as highlight personal growth potential. She utilizes ACT, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness based interventions in her work with students. Her clinical interests include anxiety and depression, the connection between one’s personal and professional identities, building relationships, trauma, and adjustment.
Hannah is a lover of running, reading, and good coffee. When she’s not working or running, she enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 sons, and middle-aged corgi.
