Hilary started her career in Public Relations for a large corporation in Atlanta, when she realized she wanted shift paths into a helping field. After completing Georgia State’s Professional Counseling program, she went on to work as a Case Manager at Skyland Trail in Atlanta, an outpatient program treating those with severe and persistent mental illness. Hilary then began working with The Anxiety and Stress Management Institute in Atlanta where she served as the Intake Coordinator and therapist. Hilary then opened a private therapy practice in Atlanta, Reflective Counseling Services, LLC where she worked until her family moved from Georgia to Virginia in 2014. Hilary joined Counseling and Psychological Services at The University of Richmond in 2014.
Hilary aims to provide a safe and comfortable space for students to explore their concerns. Hilary uses a client-centered approach while utilizing CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic interventions to promote self-awareness and empower change as the student sees fit. One of her favorite parts of counseling is seeing a student learn to value themselves through empowering exercises that shift the lenses through which they view themselves and the world.
Hilary is an avid coffee-lover and enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 sons. Hilary can often be found engaging in her favorite self-care activity - relaxing on the couch with one of her 2 elderly cats.
