Dr. Charity Thompson is a Licensed Professional Counselor (Virginia & Texas), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, National Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor. Dr. Thompson received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Old Dominion University, master's degree in professional counseling from Liberty University, and PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Hampton University. Dr. Thompson has experience in a variety of services and settings, including community-based and K-12 school-based mental health services, outpatient psychotherapy, crisis services, and addiction and recovery treatment services along the level of care continuum. While Dr. Thompson’s clinical expertise has primarily focused on navigating trauma experiences and substance use, but her interests range from managing anxiety, depression, and daily life stressors to developing skills to identify, recognize, and address more complex, underlying factors that may impact daily functioning. Dr. Thompson is an eclectic therapist that utilizes a multiple of approaches based on an individual’s needs, which allows her to sustain person-centered care.
In her spare time, Dr. Thompson enjoys being an “extroverted, introvert.” While she loves being fueled by social activities and fun with family and friends, she also loves being refueled by her time alone doing things such as binge watching her favorite tv shows and new movies, reading, and self-care.
