Andrew Stockman Darby

Advanced Graduate Trainee
  • Profile

Andrew is a Counseling Resident in the Advanced Graduate Training program at the University of Richmond’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). He provides individual counseling, outreach, consultation services, and on-call crisis response to students. He also collaborates with Athletics to support student-athletes’ mental health, performance, and overall well-being.

Andrew’s theoretical orientation is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with a focus on helping students build psychological flexibility and respond to challenges with greater openness and resilience. He integrates motivational interviewing, self-compassion practices, and a collaborative exploration of patterns that may be shaping a student’s experience. Andrew supports students in identifying the values that matter most to them and using those values as a blueprint for meaningful, sustainable change.

His clinical interests include anxiety, stress management, identity development, performance concerns, and supporting student-athletes navigating the intersection of mental health and sport. Across his work, Andrew aims to create a supportive, strengths-based environment where students feel understood, empowered, and capable of growth.

As a former Division I athlete, Andrew continues to connect with his athletic identity through golf, pickleball, running, and yoga. Originally from South Carolina, he has lived across the East Coast while pursuing training opportunities in counseling and applied sport psychology. He enjoys working with students during this formative stage of life and values building relationships that promote growth, confidence, and well-being.
