Concerned About a Student

If immediate assistance is needed because of a threat to someone's safety, call the police:

  • On-campus situations: Call UR Police emergency (804-289-8911); or 911 from any campus phone
  • Off-campus situations: Call 911 to access local police responders

For other types of emergencies, see "Emergencies"

For non-emergency situations, please relay your concerns to the appropriate dean's office:

  • Undergraduate female student: Juliette Landphair (804-289-8468)
  • Undergraduate male student: Joe Boehman (804-289-8061)
  • A&S Graduate student: Kathy Hoke (804-289-8417)
  • Law student: Kristine Henderson (804-289-8186)
  • MBA student: Lois Vogle (804-289-8553)
  • SCS student: Ned Swartz (804-287-6338)

Dean's office staff have the most holistic view of each student, are able to integrate the concerns you convey into everything else known about the student, and initiate an appropriate response. Usually this involves contacting the student, expressing concern for their well-being, and making a compassionate referral to appropriate source(s) of help.

See Responding to Distressed, Disruptive or Threatening Student Behavior (a 7-page pdf document) for additional information about resources, warning signs, safety risk indicators, suggested interventions, and privacy concerns.
